John Rogers, CFA
President and Chief Executive Officer
John Rogers joined CFA Institute in January 2009 after more than two decades of global experience as an investment practitioner and executive in the Asia-Pacific region and the United States.
Mr. Rogers worked with Citibank and CIGNA in Japan and Australia prior to joining INVESCO. He served as president and chief investment officer of Invesco Asset Management Ltd., Japan, CEO and Co-Chief Investment Officer of Invesco Global Asset Management, N.A., and as CEO of Invesco's worldwide institutional division, with over $200 billion in assets under management and 2,500 employees. After leaving Invesco in 2007, he founded Jade River Capital Management.
Mr. Rogers is a director of numerous boards, endowments, and advisory committees in both the not-for-profit and in the corporate sectors. He earned a BA in history from Yale University and an MA in East Asian studies from Stanford University. Mr. Rogers earned his CFA charter in 1993.
Jeannie Anderson, JD
Managing Director and General Counsel, Legal and Professional Conduct
Ms. Anderson, managing director and general counsel of CFA Institute, oversees the organization’s global legal affairs and the CFA Institute Professional Conduct Program. As general counsel, she directs global litigation, protects CFA Institute intellectual property, provides in-house legal services to CFA Institute business units, and provides counsel to the Board of Governors and other volunteer groups regarding corporate governance matters. In her professional conduct role, Ms. Anderson oversees the CFA Institute disciplinary process and serves as the executive liaison to the Disciplinary Review Committee. She also acts as the CFA Institute compliance officer responsible for education and enforcement of the CFA Institute Employee Code of Conduct. Ms. Anderson earned a JD from the University of Richmond and a BS in public relations from the University of Florida. Prior to joining CFA Institute in 2000 as associate general counsel, she practiced intellectual property law at LeClair Ryan, LLP.
Elaine Cheng
Managing Director, Chief Information Officer
Ms. Cheng, managing director and chief information officer, oversees all aspects of information technology globally for the organization. Her primary focus is to provide and support organization-wide IT, including infrastructure and architecture, applications development, business process reengineering, networks, and computer operations. She is also accountable for the future vision and strategy of technology and systems at CFA Institute.
Prior to joining CFA Institute, Ms. Cheng worked for M&T Bank in Buffalo, New York, as group vice president of Technology Business Services. In this position, she led development planning for major IT investments; managed technology relationships with retail, commercial, and internal business units; and overhauled the project management process. She served as vice president of retail operations at the bank prior to this position.
Ms. Cheng earned her BA from Vassar College and her MBA from the University of Rochester, both in New York.
Raymond J. DeAngelo
Managing Director, CFA Institute Stakeholder Services, Marketing and Communications Division
Raymond J. DeAngelo is a managing director and leads the Stakeholder Services, Marketing and Communications Division of CFA Institute.
Mr. DeAngelo has principal responsibility for managing relationships with the affiliated Member Societies of CFA Institute worldwide. In addition, his duties include Public Relations, Global Advertising, Communications (internal and external), Marketing, Creative Services, Corporate Sales, Industry Relations and University Relations, and for representing CFA Institute as a liaison for cooperative ventures with professional organizations around the globe. In 2004, Mr. DeAngelo also fundamentally reshaped and relaunched the standard-setting and policy arm of CFA Institute, with the aim to develop timely, practical solutions to global capital market issues.
Before joining CFA Institute, Mr. DeAngelo spent 10 years with The McGraw-Hill Companies, where he advanced through a series of divisional and company public affairs posts to direct corporate identity and public affairs programs for this global publishing and information services corporation. He earned a master’s degree at Columbia University, and a bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, at Franklin and Marshall College.
Donna Marshall
Managing Director, Human Resources
Ms. Marshall, managing director of the Human Resources division, oversees all aspects of global HR leadership throughout the organization. Her primary focus is to develop and implement a global HR best practices service delivery model. She also oversees the identification, recruitment, and development of talent, as well as succession planning, learning, and other talent-related activities.
Prior to her appointment, Ms. Marshall was vice president, Global Human Resources, for Kroll’s Background Screening Division. In this position she implemented a global HR best practices model and developed a company-wide organizational development and learning plan. She previously was vice president for Gevity HR where she focused on transformation of the HR shared services function. Ms. Marshall has also served as vice president in a number of diverse roles in the employer services, institutional, telecommunications, and system development businesses of Fidelity Investments companies.
Ms. Marshall earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, New York, and affiliates with the Center for Creative Leadership, Women in Technology International, and the Society for Human Resource Management.
Timothy G. McLaughlin, CFA, CPA
Chief Administrative Officer and Chief Financial Officer
Mr. McLaughlin is chief administrative officer and chief financial officer of CFA Institute.
Before joining CFA Institute in 1999, he served as director of finance for the University of Virginia Medical Center and as a member of its general faculty. Prior to that, Mr. McLaughlin served in finance planning and controller roles at Siemens, AG and Cooper Industries, Inc.
He is the author and editor of 15 works in accounting and business, four of which were reviews for professional exams: Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and Certified in Financial Management (CFM).
Mr. McLaughlin holds a fine arts master's and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Virginia. His designations include CPA, CMA, CIA, CFM, and PFS (Personal Finance Specialist).
Nitin Mehta, CFA
Managing Director for Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA)
Mr. Mehta joined CFA Institute in February 2006 as managing director for operations in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
For almost a decade before, he served as the head of international equities at Henderson Global Investors, a U.K.-based fund manager with institutional and retail clients. Earlier in his career, Mr. Mehta held a variety of positions of senior responsibility at investment firms including Quorum Capital Management, a London-based subsidiary of New York Life, where he was head of currency and derivatives; and Shearson Lehman Global Asset Management in London, where he was head of global equities.
Mr. Mehta is a CFA charterholder. He earned an MBA from the London Business School in 1986 and a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology.
Thomas R. Robinson, PhD, CFA
Managing Director, Educational Division
As the managing director of the Education Division, Dr. Robinson leads and develops teams responsible for the production and delivery of educational content and examinations for candidates, members, and other investment professionals.
He joined CFA Institute as head of educational content in 2007 from the University of Miami, where he was an associate professor of accounting and director of the Master of Professional Accounting program. Concurrently, he was managing director of a private wealth investment advisory firm, and served as a consultant in valuation and financial statement analysis.
Prior to becoming an academic, he worked in public accounting performing tax and financial planning services. He holds a bachelor’s in economics from the University of Pennsylvania, and a master's and a doctorate from Case Western Reserve University.
Dr. Robinson is a Certified Public Accountant (Ohio), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), and CFA charterholder. He was active both locally and nationally as a volunteer for CFA Institute and CFA Miami prior to joining the staff.
Kurt N. Schacht, JD, CFA
Managing Director, Standards and Financial Market Integrity Division
Mr. Schacht is managing director of the Standards and Financial Market Integrity division of CFA Institute, where he oversees all efforts to develop, issue, and maintain the highest ethical standards for the global investment community.
Prior to accepting this appointment in 2004, he was general counsel and chief operating officer for WPM Asset Management, a Manhattan-based hedge fund. Previously, Mr. Schacht was chief operating officer for the Evergreen Mutual Funds in White Plains, New York, and chief legal officer for the State of Wisconsin Investment Board.
He has served on the U.S. SEC Advisory Committee for Small Public Companies, the Proxy Committee of the International Corporate Governance Network, and the Expert Group for Principles for Responsible Investment of the United Nations.
Mr. Schacht earned a JD and a BS in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Jan Squires, DBA, CFA
Managing Director, Strategic Products and Technology
Dr. Squires is managing director of Strategic Products and Technology, a division of CFA Institute that drives engagement with members and other constituent groups through the integration of content curation, social and emerging media, multimedia, web services, and information technology.
Previously he served as managing director of Asia-Pacific operations, based in Hong Kong, where he was responsible for all CFA Institute activities within the region. He has also served as head of exam development for the CFA Program.
Before joining CFA Institute staff, Dr. Squires was a professor of finance and general business at Southwest Missouri State University, where he published research in such publications as Financial Practice and Education, Journal of Education, and Journal of Economics and Finance.
He was a member volunteer and consultant for CFA Institute for more than 10 years before joining the staff. Dr. Squires earned a doctorate in business administration from the Darden School at the University of Virginia.
Paul Smith, CFA
Managing Director, APAC
Mr. Smith has more than 25 years of relevant financial services leadership experience in many aspects of the investment management industry. He has lived and worked in Hong Kong for 14+ years and is dedicated to the Asia Pacific market. Mr. Smith previously worked for HSBC and the Bank of Bermuda, both institutions with global operations. In addition, Mr. Smith has pursued entrepreneurial roles, most recently running his own firm – Asia Alternative Asset Partners. He has managed global teams as large as 1,500 staff in 13 locations.
Mr. Smith also volunteers as a council member and former board member of the Alternative Investment Management Association, a membership organization that promotes the industry’s global development.
He holds a master of arts degree in modern history from Oxford University and is a chartered accountant and a CFA charterholder.
Ashvin P. Vibhakar, PhD, CFA
Managing Director, Senior Advisor
Dr. Vibhakar is managing director, senior advisor at CFA Institute. Previously he was head of Asia-Pacific operations, where he was responsible for all CFA Institute activities within the region. Prior to this appointment he served as deputy head of Asia-Pacific operations.
Before joining CFA Institute Dr. Vibhakar was director of the Institute for Economic Advancement in the College of Business Administration at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR). His distinguished career includes numerous academic roles including dean of the College of Business Administration at UALR. A former member of the Board of Governors and volunteer of CFA Institute, he has served on numerous committees.
Dr. Vibhakar received his PhD in finance from the University of Arkansas, his business administration master's from Central Missouri State University, and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from M.S. University of Baroda, India.
