Professional References

As part of your CFA Institute membership application, you will need professional references who can speak to your role in the investment decision-making process. 

Three professional references are required unless you have a reference from a regular member of the society to which you are applying. In that case, two professional references are required. Supervisor references are preferred. Applicants may not serve as a reference for their own applications.

When selecting your references, please note that they will be required to comment on your work experience and professional character. Select individuals who can attest to your responsibilities related to the investment decision-making process as defined by the work experience guidelines.

Your references will receive emailed instructions for completing the process. Your application cannot be submitted until the required reference statements have been returned.  

Are you in a remote location without a society nearby?
A number of CFA Institute member societies are willing to assist applicants in remote areas with locating society members to provide a reference for them. Find a society.
