Association for Investment Management and Research Announces New Society in the Netherlands

Charlottesville, VA, May 24, 1999 - The Association for Investment Management and Research (AIMR) today announced the creation of the Netherlands Society of Investment Professionals, a member society of AIMR. Henk Brulleman, CFA, Head of Strategy and Global Tactical Asset Allocation at Shell Pensioenfonds Beheer, will serve as the Society's first president. AIMR is a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising the professional, educational and ethical standards of investment management and research practitioners around the globe.

"We are very pleased to be able to announce the creation of this society after almost a year of planning and development," said Mr. Brulleman. "We are looking forward to working with AIMR to develop our mutual goals of high ethical professionalism and the further development of expertise within the investment community of the Netherlands, as well as further broadening our international perspective. The commitments the Netherlands Society has received from its founding sponsors demonstrate that this initiative is being supported by a significant cross-section of the financial industry in the Netherlands."

Members of the Netherlands Society will include investment professionals who have been awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) designation by AIMR, local candidates who register for the CFA Program each year and other AIMR members. The CFA designation is recognized in the investment industry as an international standard of professional excellence.

Candidates seeking this designation must pass three separate stages of a rigorous examination process over the course of at least three years and satisfy work experience requirements.

Thomas A. Bowman, CFA, President and CEO of AIMR, said, "The creation of the Netherlands Society brings investment professionals one step closer to our common goal of achieving the highest standards in the investment community across the globe."

The Netherlands Society of Investment Professional's first president, Mr. Brulleman, has been Head of Strategy and Global Tactical Asset Allocation for Shell Pensioenfonds Beheer since mid-1998. As such, he is responsible for giving advice on the optimal strategic asset mix and short-term deviations from this benchmark. Mr. Brulleman, who has held the Chartered Financial Analyst designation since 1995, was cofounder and treasurer of the London Society of Investment Professionals.

The first European AIMR chapter opened in Switzerland in 1997. Currently, a total of 3 affiliated chapters and societies exist in Europe, representing a membership total of approximately 600 investment management and research professionals.
