Standards of Practice Exam

 

The self-administered Ethics Exam for members and non-members tests ethical awareness.

 

This online self-test consists of 25 multiple-choice questions based on information contained in the 9th edition of the Standards of Practice Handbook.

 

Who Should Take the Exam?

  • Individuals who have not passed Level I of the CFA Program who are required to take the Ethics Exam:
    • By a member society, for application
    • To be eligible for regular membership (along with four years of acceptable professional work experience in the investment decision-making process)
  • Anyone − students, young professionals, prospective employees − who has been asked to test for understanding of the Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct

 

How to Get the Exam...

 

To meet membership requirements: You can submit a membership application or upgrade form to us. If you are required to take the exam, you will get an e-mail message once your membership request is approved. The e-mail will contain links to the Standards of Practice Handbook and the exam.

 

To voluntarily self-test your understanding: Log in to take the exam. (New users will need to set up a login account.)

 

To get continuing education credit: Members who want automatic continuing education (CE) credit can complete the voluntary exam after reading the Standards of Practice Handbook. Credit for successfully completing the exam will be automatically populated in your CE Diary.

 

Grading
The exam is graded electronically. You will receive your score immediately. Your official notification will be e-mailed to you and your member society, if applicable, within two weeks.
