CIPM Program Calculator Policy

Make sure you have the approved calculator you need for the CIPM exams.

Two business calculator models are authorized for the exams:

  • Texas Instruments BA II Plus (including BA II Plus Professional); use if you prefer algebraic notation entry
  • Hewlett Packard 12C (including the HP 12C Platinum and 25th anniversary edition); use if you prefer reverse Polish notation entry

Do not wait until the weeks before the exam to buy your calculator. Buy a calculator early so you can practice as you study.*

Your calculator will be inspected before the exam. Unauthorized calculators will not be allowed in the testing room, and Pearson VUE strictly enforces this policy. Use of an unauthorized calculator is a violation of our policy that may result in the voiding of your exam results.

Calculator Rules During the Exam

  • You are allowed to bring one extra calculator to the test center; all calculators must be authorized models
  • Calculators will be inspected by the proctors prior to and during the exam and must remain on the desk throughout the entire examination
  • Calculator covers are permitted in the testing room (the Texas Instruments BAII Plus cover contains a keystroke card; the Hewlett Packard 12C/12C Platinum has keystrokes printed on the back of the calculator); you may refer to these keystroke instructions during the exam, but you may not write notes or formulas on the calculator covers
  • Calculator manuals are NOT allowed in the testing center
  • The CIPM Association is aware that the HP 12C rounds up when computing the time required to accumulate a certain sum, and we have taken that into consideration in the creation of questions

*Note: We do not sell calculators, nor do we receive any financial remuneration from sales of either calculator model.
