Mandatory Continuing Education

 

Requirements

 

1. CIPM certificants must:

 

  • Complete 45 hours of qualifying activities within three years following the calendar year in which the right to use the CIPM designation was awarded or renewed. How to calculate credit

    or

  • Retake and pass the CIPM Expert exam in the third year following the calendar year in which the right to use the CIPM designation was awarded or renewed. Certificants who intend to sit for the Expert exam must enroll during a regular enrollment period (1 May through 31 July or 1 November through 31 January). Contact us to enroll and sit for the Expert exam.

    • Certificants may enroll to sit for the Expert exam at the then-effective discounted fee for returning candidates
    • In order to qualify for the full 45 hours of MCE credit, you must pass the exam
    • Certificants who sit for but do not pass the Expert exam may claim credit for preparation time up to a maximum of 20 hours

2. Attest that they have complied with the MCE program as of the end of each three-year reporting cycle. (Certificants will be notified of the process details for completing their attestation.) 

 

3. Retain the prescribed documentation of pertinent activities for one calendar year following the three-year cycle in which the activities were completed

 

All certificants may be selected for a compliance review of their activity documentation.

 

The table below illustrates the MCE timeline for candidates who earn the right to use the CIPM designation in calendar year 2007, 2008, 2009, or 2010:

Note: The three-year MCE-cycle begins once the certificate is awarded, not when the Expert examination is passed (e.g., if an individual passes the Expert exam in 2007 but is not awarded the certificate until 2008 due to work experience requirements, their first MCE cycle would begin 1 January 2009).
