Michael M. Pompian, CFP, CFA, is director of the private wealth practice and a principal consultant at Hammond Associates, an investment consulting firm in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, with more than $50 billion of assets under advisement. Prior to joining Hammond Associates, Mr. Pompian was a wealth management adviser with Merrill Lynch and a private wealth adviser with PNC Private Bank. Prior to these positions, he was on the investment staff of a family office. Mr. Pompian has published articles in the Journal of Wealth Management and the Journal of Financial Planning and authored the books Behavioral Finance and Wealth Management (2006) and Advising Ultra-Affluent Clients and Family Offices (2009). He has been quoted in Money magazine, The New York Times, and other media outlets, including Bloomberg and CNBC. Mr. Pompian earned a BS from the University of New Hampshire and an MBA in finance from Tulane University.

Summary

Given the multiple market disruptions of the past decade, including the technology bubble breaking, energy price volatility, and the credit crisis, understanding investor behavior is more important than ever. This course, rooted in the latest research on behavioral anomalies of individual investors, provides investment professionals with practical ways to create portfolios for individual investors and modify asset allocation decisions that account for these behaviors.
