Carl Bacon, CIPM

Carl Bacon, CIPM, is chairman of StatPro Group plc and runs his own consultancy business providing advice on risk and performance measurement issues. Previously, he was director of risk control and performance at Foreign & Colonial Management and vice president head of performance (Europe) for JP Morgan Investment Management. Mr. Bacon is a founding member of both the Investment Performance Council and the GIPS Committee as well as a member of both the UK Investment Performance Committee and the Advisory Board of The Journal of Performance Measurement. He is the author of Practical Performance Measurement & Attribution and editor of Advanced Portfolio Attribution Analysis. Mr. Bacon holds a BSc in mathematics from Manchester University.

Louis Boulanger, CFA

Louis Boulanger, CFA, is founder and director of Louis Boulanger Now Ltd. Previously, he was an executive director of Mercer Investment Consulting. Mr. Boulanger has participated actively in the ongoing development of the GIPS standards and is currently a member of the GIPS Executive Committee (EC) of the CFA Institute Centre for Financial Market Integrity. He also serves as chairman of the EC’s Regional Investment Performance Subcommittee for Asia Pacific. Mr. Boulanger was the founding president of the CFA Society of New Zealand and remains a director and an active society member. He holds a BSc from Laval University.

Scott D. Brown, CFA

Scott D. Brown, CFA, is managing director of Global Multi Manager – Americas. Previously, he was head of global real estate at Ennis Knupp & Associates and senior department head at State Street Corporation. Mr. Brown is currently a voting member of the REIS council of the National Council of Real Estate Investment Fiduciaries (NCREIF) and formerly chaired the NCREIF performance measurement committee. He is currently the co-chair of the GIPS Real Estate Update subcommittee and a member of the research committee at the Pension Real Estate Association. Mr. Brown holds a BA in economics from the University of Massachusetts and an MS in real estate development from Columbia University.

Stephen Campisi, CFA

Stephen Campisi, CFA, is principal of Intuitive Performance Solutions, a consulting firm specializing in investment management services, performance analysis, and investment education. He also serves as an adjunct professor at Western New England College and is a member of the advisory board of the Journal of Performance Measurement, which has published several of his articles on performance analysis. Mr. Campisi is a frequent conference speaker and teacher on the topics of asset allocation, risk analysis, and performance analysis. He holds an MA in music from Montclair State University and an MBA from the University of Connecticut.

Gene A. Gohlke is associate director for investment company and adviser compliance in the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC’s) Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations, where he is responsible for managing the SEC's program for the examination of registered investment companies and investment advisers. Previously, he was acting director of the SEC’s division of investment management and has held positions at a management consulting firm and the U.S. Agency for International Development. Mr. Gohlke is a Certified Public Accountant, and he holds PhD and MBA degrees in business administration from the University of Wisconsin.

Stefan Illmer

Stefan Illmer is director and head of client reporting at Credit Suisse where he is responsible for performance measurement, performance attribution, and investment reporting. Previously, he was responsible for GIPS compliance and a variety of measurement and reporting functions at Credit Suisse Asset Management. Dr. Illmer is the chairman of both the GIPS Executive Committee, where he represents Europe, and of the GIPS Regional Investment Performance Committee EMEA (formerly EIPC). He is also a member of the Swiss Banking Association’s experts group for GIPS. Dr. Illmer is a frequent conference speaker and author of several articles on performance measurement and attribution, client reporting, and the GIPS standards.

L. Todd Juillerat, CFA

L. Todd Juillerat, CFA, is managing director and head of performance measurement at State Street Global Advisors. Previously, he was head of global performance measurement at Invesco, manager of market strategy at JP Morgan Asset Management, and managing director for product management and analysis at Banc One Investment Advisors. Mr. Juillerat is a member of the GIPS Executive Committee and chairs its Americas Regional Investment Performance Subcommittee. He also serves on the editorial advisory board of the Journal of Performance Measurement, and has served as a standard setter for the CIPM program. Mr. Juillerat received a BS in business administration from Wake Forest University.

Carol Kennedy

Carol Kennedy is a senior partner at Pantheon Ventures Ltd., a global private equity fund of funds. Previously, she held positions in manufacturing, engineering, and European project management with Procter & Gamble. Ms. Kennedy chairs the European Private Equity and Venture Capital Association’s large buyout platform steering group. She is also member of the CFA Institute GIPS Executive Committee and chair of the CFA Institute Investor/Consultant and Promotion and Awareness subcommittees. Ms. Kennedy has a BSc in chemical engineering from Birmingham University.

Philip Lawton, CFA, CIPM

Philip N. Lawton, CFA, CIPM, is head of the Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement (CIPM) program in the Education Division of CFA Institute. His previous experience includes serving as vice president at State Street Analytics, where he supported the investment consulting firms that belong to the Independent Consultants Cooperative, and Citibank, where he headed U.S. performance measurement in Worldwide Securities Services. His work has been published by Harper & Row, Het Tijdschrift voor Filosofie, Philosophy Today, Philosophy Research Archives, University Press of America, International Studies in the Philosophy of Science, Philosophy & Theology, and CFA Institute. Dr. Lawton earned an MBA degree with a concentration in finance at Northeastern University and a doctorate in philosophy in the French-speaking section of the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium.

Iain McAra is performance strategist for JPMorgan Asset Management, where he oversees the implementation of systems and methods used for performance analysis and measurement of U.S. managed institutional assets. Previously he held positions in the United Kingdom working for Citigroup and Baring Asset Management. Mr. McAra is a member of the North American Investment Performance Committee and has served on several other committees related to AIMR and GIPS. He serves on the advisory board of the Journal of Performance Measurement. Mr. McAra holds a BSc from London University.

John R. Minahan, CFA

John R. Minahan, CFA, is a senior investment strategist at New England Pension Consultants (NEPC), where he assists with developing overall themes governing NEPC’s investment advice and the tools to implement that advice. Previously, he was self-employed as a freelance consultant, a head of an internal consulting group at MetLife, a senior consultant with Meketa Investment Group, and an assistant professor of finance at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Dr. Minahan also serves as president of the Boston Security Analysts Society. He holds a BS from Boston College and a PhD from Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan School of Management. 

Colin Morrison

Colin Morrison is an independent consultant working within the asset management industry. He provides consulting services in investment performance and market risk, project management toward, process reengineering, and system selection and implementation. Previously, Mr. Morrison served as head of performance and risk at Standard Life Investments, global head of performance at Baring Asset Management, head of performance analytics at the Bank of New York, and head of performance at Scottish Provident Institution. He is a member of the Investment Management Association Investment Performance Working Party.

Sunette Mulder

Sunette Mulder is senior policy analyst at the Association for Savings and Investment, South Africa. Previously, she was head of performance at Cadiz African Harvest Fund Managers. Ms. Mulder is the chairperson of the GIPS Standing Committee of the Investment Manager Association of South Africa, the South African country sponsor. She is also the South African country sponsor representative on the EMEA Regional Investment Performance Subcommittee and the GIPS Council. Ms. Mulder currently serves as chair-elect of the GIPS Executive Committee and chair of the Investment Manager Subcommittee.

Jesse E. Reyes

Jesse E. Reyes is managing director of the private funds group at Bear Stearns. Previously, he was a managing partner with Crane Capital Associates, which was acquired by Bear Stearns, and vice president, global research at Thomson Venture Economics. Mr. Reyes is the head of the GIPS committee on performance presentation standards representing private equity investing. He is also an educational board member of the Kauffman Fellows program and an adjunct lecturer at Cornell’s Johnson Graduate School of Management. He holds both a bachelor of science degree and an MBA from Texas Tech University, and has completed graduate studies in the department of economics at Harvard University.

Neil E. Riddles, CFA, CIPM

Neil E. Riddles, CFACIPM, is chief risk officer and director of quantitative analysis at Hansberger Global Investors, Inc. He is responsible for the overall risk management function of the firm, including the development and execution of policies and procedures to mitigate various types of business-specific risks, and oversees the performance measurement function. Previously, Mr. Riddles served as senior vice president and director of performance analysis at Templeton Global Investors. He is chair of the United States Investment Performance Committee and serves on the CIPM Advisory Council and on the advisory board of The Journal of Performance Measurement. Mr. Riddles holds an MBA from Iona College.

Diane Robertson is director and head of global performance reporting at Legg Mason & Company, LLC, where she is responsible for performance measurement and GIPS Standards compliance on behalf of Legg Mason affiliates. Previously, she led the global performance team at Citigroup Asset Management, supporting the legacy asset management businesses of CAM, Citibank, Salomon Brothers, and Smith Barney. Prior to that, Ms. Robertson was with Deutsche Bank’s U.S. performance measurement team. She has been invited to join the interpretations subcommittee of the GIPS Executive Committee and has served on the Money Management Institute’s CFA Institute liaison committee. She holds a BS in finance from Alfred University.

Timothy M. Simons, CFA, CIPM

Timothy M. Simons, CFA, CIPM, is a partner at Ashland Partners & Company LLP and managing director of Ashland Compliance Group LLC. Previously, he was a chief compliance examiner in the Philadelphia district office of the U.S. SEC. Mr. Simons serves on the Interpretations Subcommittee of the GIPS Executive Committee and the U.S. Investment Performance Committee. He is a certified financial planner and a past director of the CFA Society of Philadelphia and the National Society of Compliance Professionals. Mr. Simons holds a BS in engineering from Rutgers University and an MBA from George Mason University. 

David D. Spaulding, CIPM

David D. Spaulding, CIPM, is founder and president of The Spaulding Group, Inc., and founder and publisher of The Journal of Performance Measurement. He is the author and contributing author of several books on investment performance, including The Handbook of Investment Performance, and has written articles for numerous industry publications. Mr. Spaulding is a member of a number of committees and working groups including the North American Investment Performance Committee (formerly the AIMR-PPS Implementation Committee) and the GIPS Executive Committee Promotion and Awareness Subcommittee. He holds a BA in mathematics from Temple University, an MS in systems management from the University of Southern California, and an MBA in finance from the University of Baltimore.

Steven W. Stone

Steven W. Stone is the leader of the investment management practice group at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP and serves as managing partner of the firm's Washington office. His practice focuses on broker-dealer and investment manager regulation and enforcement defense and regulation of the securities markets. Mr. Stone frequently advises trading desks of broker-dealers and investment managers on a range of issues. He is a member of the editorial board of Practical Compliance & Risk Management and an advisory board member of Wall Street Lawyer and The Journal of Performance Measurement. He holds a BA from Bates College and a JD from George Washington University National Law Center.

Wylie A. Tollette, CFAWylie A. Tollette, CFA, is senior vice president and director of the Global Investment Performance Department and the Portfolio Analysis and Investment Risk Department for Franklin Templeton Investments. Previously, he was director of the investment management services program, manager of investment operations, and manager of fund accounting at Franklin Templeton Investments. Mr. Tollette has also worked as an auditor/consultant at KPMG and as vice president of finance at American Savings Bank. He holds a BS in managerial economics from the University of California at Davis.
Karyn D. Vincent, CFA, CIPM

Karyn D. Vincent, CFA, CIPM, is founder of Vincent Performance Services LLC, which provides GIPS consulting and verification services. Previously, she served as the global practice leader for investment performance services at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Ms. Vincent serves on the GIPS Executive Committee (EC), chairs the Interpretations Subcommittee of the GIPS EC, and is a member of the Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement (CIPM) Advisory Council. From 2002 to 2006, she chaired the AIMR-PPS Implementation Committee and the Verification Subcommittee of the Investment Performance Council. Ms. Vincent holds a BS in accounting from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth.

Phillip Vitale, CFA, is chief investment officer at Filament, LLC. Previously, he was head of the quantitative research team for Quellos Group, LLC (now BlackRock Alternative Advisors), where his work focused on investment research and risk analysis, portfolio construction and monitoring, decision analysis, and advanced financial modeling for institutional investors and high-net-worth clients. Mr. Vitale’s work has contributed to academic and practitioner research such as the book Absolute Returns: The Risk and Opportunities of Hedge Fund Investing by Alex Ineichen. He is a member of the CFA Institute GIPS Alternative Strategies working group and serves as vice president of the CFA Society of Seattle. He holds a BA in business administration with a finance concentration from Washington State University.
