Investor relations is a crucial function for any listed company. A competent investor relations team not only raises the profile of a company but also the value of its securities. Given its strategic nature, the role demands diverse skill sets from a professional. One needs competence in finance, as well as a strong understanding of the business or sectors that the organisation operates in, the macroeconomic environment, and the corporate strategy and various processes within the organisation. One also needs to have above-average communication skills and a sound knowledge of securities law.

Demand for investor relations professionals will only increase in future, as more and more companies tap the public markets for funds. What does it mean for CFA® charterholders and candidates? What opportunities lie ahead? And what will it take to build a career in this space?
