Summary

Increasing oil supply will not lower oil’s high price, which is likely to continue rising for the foreseeable future. Instead, opening the transportation sector to competitive fuels could eventually eliminate the strategic importance of oil. Oil can be turned into salt, so to speak, through the widespread adoption of fuel-competitive vehicles and the arbitrage among energy commodities that would result.
