Regulatory Expectations and Impact of the EU Sustainable Finance Strategy
Panel discussion centered around both the regulatory approach on ESG disclosure and corporate governance, as well as perspectives of asset owners and asset managers. Topics covered are regulatory expectations and impact of new regulations on sustainable finance particularly, SFDR, Taxonomy, the Commission proposal on CSRD. The event was moderated by Josina Kamerling, head of regulatory outreach EMEA and speakers included Sirpa Pietikäinen MEP, European Parliament and a panel of experts Vesa Syrjäläinen, CFA, responsible investment analyst at Varma, Outi Helenius, head of sustainability, member of the board at Evli Fund Management and Jesse Collin, head of legal and regulatory affairs at the Finnish Foundation for Share Promotion (Pörssisäätiö)

About the Speaker(s)
Jesse Collin is head of Legal and Regulatory Affairs of the Finnish Foundation for Share Promotion (Suomen Pörssisäätiö). Mr. Collin participates actively in national and European legislative initiatives and proactively promotes better functioning capital markets. He has a background in corporate governance and regulation of the capital markets. Prior to joining the Finnish Foundation for Share Promotion Mr. Collin has worked for the financial markets department of the Ministry of Finance. He also has experience from a major law firm where he worked on capital markets transactions and corporate governance related matters. In addition, he holds a Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Helsinki.
Outi Helenius is head of sustainability at Evli Bank Plc, leading the development of Evli Group’s responsibility program and operations. Ms Helenius oversees Fund Management's responsible investing. She is also Board Member at Evli Fund Management Company. Before joining Evli in 2015, Ms Helenius has been working at KONE’s Investor Relations and SEB’s Equity Research team. She holds a master’s degree in economics from the University of Helsinki and is also an EFFAS’ Certified ESG Analyst. She also completed a Diploma in Responsible Business and Environmental Management at Aalto University.
Josina Kamerling is head, regulatory outreach, for CFA Institute for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region and is based in the Brussels office. She is responsible for supporting CFA Institute's EMEA policy development, advancing the impact of advocacy efforts, and promoting capital market integrity and investor protection issues.
Sirpa Pietikäinen is a member of the European People's Party (EPP) in the European Parliament. Ms Pietikäinen was former Minister of the Environment in Finland from 1991 to 1995, and a Member of the parliament from 1983 to 2003. She also is a Member of the European Parliament since 2008. At the European Parliament, Ms Pietikäinen is a member of the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee and Women’s Right and Gender Equality Committee, and a substitute member of the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee. Within her work, she seeks to combine her two specialties, environment and economics. Ms Pietikäinen is a strong advocate of a transition to a circular economy and sustainable finance. She served as the lead negotiator on behalf of the European Parliament and the EPP group on the first Sustainable Finances legislative initiatives, Disclosure and Taxonomy Regulations as well as on the Parliament's Own Initiative Report on Sustainable Finance. A graduate from the Helsinki School of Economics, Ms. Pietikäinen holds an MSc in Business, and teaches university courses on negotiations theory and practices. She is active in several organisations; her positions of trust include Chairmanship of the Globe EU.
Vesa Syrjäläinen, CFA, is responsible investment analyst at Varma Mutual Pension Insurance Company since 2017, where he develops responsible investments across all asset classes. Before Varma, Mr. Syrjäläinen worked as an analyst at Gasum. He holds an MSc in Finance from the University of Vaasa and is a CFA Charterholder.
