Overview

The fintech ecosystem has become mainstream and has integrated with traditional ecosystems at a scale never seen before. Traditional banks and financial institutions are now partnering with fintechs to acquire new customers and gain efficiencies in their processes. A leading private sector bank in India recently claimed that it now opens 70% of new accounts through fintech partnerships. The regulatory landscape is also evolving rapidly. An Indian banking regulator has published guidelines making it mandatory for banks to set up digital banking units and allowing them to outsource this unit to fintech service providers. Other initiatives around account aggregators would add immense power to the IndiaStack, creating a unified payments interface opportunity in the lending space. This initial success of fintech models in payments and lending and venture capital has opened doors to innovative ideas in digital lending, payments, and insurance and wealth management.
