Practitioners’ Insights: Investing into India – A Primer on Offshore Funds

  1. Shamit Chokshi, CFA
  2. Sivananth Ramachandran, CFA, CIPM

In this webinar, Shamit Chokshi, CFA, will discuss the offshore fund flow trends, investment objectives of foreign investors, fund structures and their rationales, trends in active vs passive flows, his opinion on recent market developments, and a peek into the future.

India, as one of the fastest-growing major economies, has always had the potential to be an attractive investment destination. While the potential has translated into impressive flows as long-term foreign direct investments (FDI), short-term foreign institutional investor (FII) flows from offshore funds has been fickle, and sensitive to macroeconomic factors, mainly the interest rate differential with the US.

In this session, Shamit Chokshi, CFA, will take us through the nuts and bolts of offshore funds, and describe the characteristics, challenges, and opportunities arising from recent market developments.

Learning outcomes:

  • Learn about the size of offshore funds and trends in offshore fund flows.
  • Review fund structures and the rationales behind them.
  • Discuss investment objectives and distinguish between onshore and offshore funds.
  • Examine opportunities, challenges, and the future.
