The 2019 CFA Institute Wealth Management Conference will feature practitioner-oriented educational sessions across a broad spectrum of topics carefully chosen to meet the needs of those engaged in managing private wealth.
Hosted by CFA Society South Florida, CFA Institute
Wealth Management combines rigorous, investment-oriented sessions with sessions on tools and strategies important to private wealth management, including financial planning, practice management, and client relationship management. The conference draws a global audience and includes opportunities to network with other delegates, as well as a select group of relevant vendors.
This conference will be submitted to NASBA for credit review and may qualify for continuing education credit from other organizations (e.g., the CFP Board and IIROC). Please contact your relevant organization for details on self-documenting credit for your participation.

Speakers
Thomas J. Boczar, CFA, is senior managing director, strategic initiatives, at Lombard International. Previously, he was CEO at Intelligent Edge Advisors. Mr. Boczar has written more than 50 articles on single-stock concentration risk management and the tax-efficient monetization of various forms of concentrated wealth, and he has co-authored a reading on the topic that is part of the CFA Program curriculum. He holds an LLM degree in taxation and an advanced certificate in estate planning from New York University School of Law and MPAcc, MBA, and JD degrees from the University of Miami.
Jean L.P. Brunel, CFA, is the managing principal of Brunel Associates LLC, a firm that serves ultra-high-net-worth individuals and their advisers. Prior to founding Brunel Associates, he served as chief investment officer of J.P. Morgan's global private bank and as a director and member of the executive committee of J.P. Morgan Investment Management, Inc. Mr. Brunel is the editor of the Journal of Wealth Management and the author of the books Integrated Wealth Management: The New Direction for Portfolio Managers and A Practical Guide to Goals-Based Wealth Management. Over the course of his career, his areas of focus have been tax-aware investing, goals-based wealth management, and the role of alternative assets in balanced portfolios. Mr. Brunel was the recipient of the 2011 C. Stewart Sheppard Award from CFA Institute, the 2012 Multi-Family Office Chief Investment Officer of the Year award from Family Office Review, and the 2015 J. Richard Joyner Wealth Management Impact Award from IMCA. He is a graduate of Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales and holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University.
Adrian J. Cronje, CFA, is CEO and chief investment officer of Balentine. Previously, he served as senior vice president and chief investment strategist at Wilmington Trust, where he chaired the Investment Strategy Team. Dr. Cronje has also served as director and deputy head of quantitative equity products at Schroders. He has published several papers and addressed national audiences on topics relating to investments and the investment industry. Dr. Cronje is a guest lecturer at several prominent universities and serves on the Board of Trustees and chairs the Investment Committee of Agnes Scott College. He is also the founding president of the not-for-profit A+ Squash, a member of the Rotary Club of Atlanta, and a charter member of TiE Atlanta. Dr. Cronje was named one of Atlanta Business Chronicle’s Top 40 Under 40 and was an honoree at TiE Atlanta’s 2018 Top Entrepreneur Awards. Dr. Cronje earned a bachelor’s degree in economics, with honors, from the University of Cape Town and a master’s degree in economics and finance and a PhD in macroeconomics and econometrics from the University of Cambridge.
Daniel Crosby is currently chief behavioral officer at Brinker Capital. He is a psychologist and behavioral finance expert who helps organizations understand the intersection of the mind and markets. Dr. Crosby’s first book, Personal Benchmark: Integrating Behavioral Finance and Investment Management, was a New York Times bestseller. His second book, The Laws of Wealth, was named the best investment book of 2017 by the Axiom Business Book Awards and has been translated into five languages. Dr. Crosby’s latest work, The Behavioral Investor, takes a comprehensive look at the neurology, physiology, and psychology of sound financial decision making. He attended Brigham Young University and Emory University.
Blair duQuesnay, CFA, is an investment advisor at Ritholtz Wealth Management and a member of the firm’s investment committee. She is an active financial commenter whose writing has been published in The New York Times and on her personal finance blog, The Belle Curve. Ms. duQuesnay has spoken at the CFA Institute Annual Conference, Morningstar Investment Conference, and CFA Institute Wealth Management Conference. She is also a former president of CFA Society Louisiana, where she continues to serve on the board. Ms. duQuesnay holds a BBA degree in finance from the University of Georgia.
Margaret Franklin, CFA, leads CFA Institute and its more than 170,000 members worldwide in promoting the highest standards of education, ethics, and professional excellence in the investment profession. She assumed her role in September 2019 and has more than 25 years of investment and wealth management experience.
Before joining CFA Institute, Ms. Franklin led International Wealth Management for North America and was president of BNY Mellon Wealth Management, Advisory Services in Canada. She also served as a board member of BNY Mellon Trust Company (Cayman). Margaret joined BNY Mellon in 2016.
Prior to joining BNY Mellon, Ms. Franklin held multiple senior management positions, including president of Marret Private Wealth and COO of Marret Asset Management, a credit and hedge fund asset manager in Toronto. During that six-year tenure, she had direct oversight of all aspects of the private wealth business. Prior to joining Marret, Margaret was a partner with KJ Harrison & Partners.
Ms. Franklin began her career in the institutional business and has worked with pension plans, endowments, foundations, and government agencies at State Street Global Advisors, Mercer, and Barclays Global Investors.
She previously served as chair of CFA Institute Board of Governors and is a former president of the CFA Society Toronto Board. Ms. Franklin is a founding member of the CFA Institute Women in Investment Initiative, a past recipient of the Alfred C. Morley Distinguished Service Award in 2014, and a member of its Future of Finance Content Council.
Ms. Franklin earned a Bachelor of Administration in Economics from McMaster University in Ontario. She is a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Society Toronto.
Robert N. Gordon is the president and founder of Twenty-First Securities Corporation. He is also an adjunct professor at the New York University Stern School of Business. Mr. Gordon is the author of Wall Street Secrets for Tax Efficient Investing and has published many articles on tax, arbitrage, and hedging strategies. He serves on the editorial advisory boards of Derivatives Report, the Journal of Taxation and Investments, and the Journal of Wealth Management. Mr. Gordon has served in many roles at the Securities Industry Association, including SIA director, treasurer, chairman of the Tax Policy Committee, and chairman of the New York District. He has also served as chairman of the Wharton School’s Securities Industry Institute. Mr. Gordon is on the boards of the John Carter Brown Library at Brown University and the Adler Planetarium.
Tricia Haskins is vice president, digital strategy and platform consulting, at Fidelity Investments. Previously, she served as product management director for PORTIA at Thomson Reuters. Ms. Haskins has also served as senior director of business operations and director of product management at Fidelity Investments. In addition, she was an investment analyst at Pilot House Associates, a senior consultant at Advent Software, and a portfolio administrator at Van Kasper Advisers. Ms. Haskins has a BA in sociology from Wheaton College.
David P. Kelly, CFA, is a managing director, chief global strategist, and head of the Global Market Insights Strategy Team at J.P. Morgan Asset Management. With over 20 years of experience, he provides valuable insight and perspective on the economy and markets to the institutional investor and financial adviser global communities. Dr. Kelly’s research focuses on the investment implications of an evolving economic environment. He has written extensively on all aspects of the US economy, and his proprietary US economic forecasting model helps shape his views on both the economic landscape and prospective asset class returns. Dr. Kelly is on JP Morgan Funds’ operating committee. He is a keynote speaker at many national investment conferences and a frequent guest on CNBC, Bloomberg, and other financial media outlets. Previously, Dr. Kelly served as economic adviser to Putnam Investments and as a senior strategist/economist at SPP Investment Management, Primark Decision Economics, Lehman Brothers, and DRI/McGraw-Hill. He earned a BA in economics from University College Dublin and an MA and a PhD in economics from Michigan State University.
Julie Littlechild is a speaker, writer, and researcher and founder of Absolute Engagement, which conducts ongoing research into the drivers of personal, client, and team engagement and translates the findings into powerful presentations and workshops. She has worked with and studied top-producing professionals, their clients, and their teams for 20 years. Ms. Littlechild is an expert on driving deeper engagement and growth and the author of The Pursuit of Absolute Engagement. She served on the national board of the Financial Planning Association, was twice named one of the 25 Most Influential People in Financial Planning by Investment Advisor Magazine, and won the Influencer Award in practice management from Financial Planning magazine. Ms. Littlechild works in the United States, Canada, and Europe. She earned an MBA from the University of Toronto.
Tom McCullough is chairman and CEO of Northwood Family Office. He has spent over 35 years in the family office/wealth management field, initially in senior executive roles at RBC Wealth Management. Mr. McCullough teaches the “Management of Private Wealth” course in the MBA program at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, as well as the Rotman “Family Wealth Management” program designed specifically for family members. He is co-author of Wealth of Wisdom: The Top 50 Questions Wealthy Families Askand Family Wealth Management: Seven Imperatives for Successful Investing in the New World Order. Mr. McCullough is an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Western University’s Ivey Business School, a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Wealth Management, and a fellow of the Family Firm Institute. He is also chair of the CEO group of the Wigmore Association, a collaboration of eight independent family offices from around the world. Mr. McCullough earned an MBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University and holds the CIM (Chartered Investment Manager) and CIWM (Certified International Wealth Manager) designations.
Rebecca A. Meyer is a consultant at Relative Solutions, where she helps families align their family enterprise with their values and strengthen their ability to work together to enhance their business, philanthropic, and financial lives. Previously, she spent 15 years in the family office industry, most recently as managing director at Pitcairn, where she built the firm’s open architecture investment platform and provided governance advice and educational programming to the firm’s largest families. Ms. Meyer recently completed researching and writing a guidebook for social impact investors in collaboration with the Center for High Impact Philanthropy at the University of Pennsylvania. She was trained in family systems at the Bowen Center for the Study of the Family and is a 21/64 Certified Advisor with expertise in multigenerational issues. Ms. Meyer earned a BA in economics from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the University of Maryland.
Brian Portnoy, Ph.D., CFA, is an expert at simplifying the complex world of money. He an investor, educator, writer, and entrepreneur. As the founder of Shaping Wealth, Brian speaks on and coaches financial wellness throughout the US, Europe, and Asia. In his two books, The Investor's Paradox and The Geometry of Wealth, he tackles the challenges of not only making better investment decisions but also how money figures into a joyful life. Brian has worked in the hedge fund and mutual fund industries for more than two decades. He is a CFA charter holder and earned his doctorate at the University of Chicago.
Isaac Presley, CFA, is president and director of investments at Cordant Wealth Partners. Prior to joining Cordant Wealth Partners, he was a senior financial analyst at a Fortune 500 financial services firm. Mr. Presley has been quoted or featured in Bloomberg, U.S. News & World Report, the Daily Mail, and Business Insider. He regularly writes about wealth management on the Cordant blog and the CFA Institute Enterprising Investor blog. Mr. Presley is a member of CFA Society Portland. He received a BS in finance from Oregon State University and an MBA from Portland State University.
Nikolee Turner is managing director of business consulting services at Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. She has been coaching, consulting, and training leaders for over 10 years and has more than 15 years of leadership experience in talent management, driving operational efficiencies, and new product development. Previously, Ms. Turner was vice president of training and consulting at Kolbe Corp, a human capital consulting firm where she trained and oversaw more than 500 consultants worldwide and consulted and collaborated with entrepreneurs, small businesses, and Fortune 500 companies, helping solve business challenges, increase growth and profitability, and maximize human capital. She has worked with financial service professionals, CPAs, and attorneys globally and is a speaker on business management topics at conferences and seminars. Ms. Turner has led a multi-million dollar software development team and has written and delivered training programs. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from St. Cloud State University, a master’s degree in education from Northern Arizona University, and a master’s degree in business administration from Arizona State University.
Greg Valliere is chief US policy strategist at AGF, the Canadian investment firm. He is a regular columnist for Barron’s magazine and a veteran commentator on developments in Washington, DC, and how they affect investors. Mr. Valliere has been following US government policies for the past 40 years. He has been affiliated with many investment companies, including Charles Schwab, where he was the research director at the Charles Schwab Washington Research Group. He specializes in nonpartisan coverage of budget and tax issues, federal regulations, monetary policy, and politics. Mr. Valliere is a regular guest on CNBC, CNN, Fox Business TV, Bloomberg Radio, Bloomberg Television, and CBS Radio. He also is quoted frequently in the press, including the Wall Street Journal. Mr. Valliere has a Series 7 license and is a member of several professional associations, including the Conference of Business Economists. He graduated from George Washington University.
Karl Zinsmeister is vice president, publications, at the Philanthropy Roundtable. He also founded and advises the Philanthropy Roundtable’s program on philanthropy for veterans and military service members. Earlier in his career, Mr. Zinsmeister was a Senate aide to Daniel Patrick Moynihan, the J. B. Fuqua Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, and editor in chief at the American Enterprise magazine. He also served as the US president’s chief domestic policy adviser and director of the White House Domestic Policy Council. Mr. Zinsmeister has authored 13 books, including The Almanac of American Philanthropy and What Comes Next? How Private Givers Can Rescue America in an Era of Political Frustration. He created the “Sweet Charity” podcast, made a PBS feature film, and has written hundreds of articles for publications ranging from the Atlantic to the Wall Street Journal. Mr. Zinsmeister is a graduate of Yale University and also studied at Trinity College Dublin.
