Wealth Management combines rigorous, investment-oriented sessions with sessions on tools and strategies important to private wealth management, including financial planning, practice management, and client relationship management. The conference draws a global audience and includes opportunities to network with other delegates, as well as a select group of relevant vendors.

This conference will be submitted to NASBA for credit review and may qualify for continuing education credit from other organizations (e.g., the CFP Board and IIROC). Please contact your relevant organization for details on self-documenting credit for your participation.

Thomas J. Boczar CFA

Thomas J. Boczar, CFA, is senior managing director, strategic initiatives, at Lombard International. Previously, he was CEO at Intelligent Edge Advisors. Mr. Boczar has written more than 50 articles on single-stock concentration risk management and the tax-efficient monetization of various forms of concentrated wealth, and he has co-authored a reading on the topic that is part of the CFA Program curriculum. He holds an LLM degree in taxation and an advanced certificate in estate planning from New York University School of Law and MPAcc, MBA, and JD degrees from the University of Miami.

Paul Bouchey, CFA
Paul Bouchey CFA

Paul Bouchey, CFA, is global head of research at Parametric, where he leads the research and development activities across all strategies. He has authored numerous academic and practitioner articles in such publications as the Journal of Portfolio Management, the Journal of Wealth Management, and the Journal of Index Investing. Mr. Bouchey frequently speaks at industry events, is on the advisory boards of the University of Washington Computational Finance and Risk Management Department and the Journal of Wealth Management, and is a member of the Institute for Quantitative Research in Finance. He earned a BA in mathematics and physics from Whitman College and an MS in computational finance and risk management from the University of Washington.

Margaret Franklin
Margaret Franklin CFA

Margaret Franklin, CFA, leads CFA Institute and its more than 170,000 members worldwide in promoting the highest standards of education, ethics, and professional excellence in the investment profession. She assumed her role in September 2019 and has more than 25 years of investment and wealth management experience.

Before joining CFA Institute, Ms. Franklin led International Wealth Management for North America and was president of BNY Mellon Wealth Management, Advisory Services in Canada. She also served as a board member of BNY Mellon Trust Company (Cayman). Margaret joined BNY Mellon in 2016.

Prior to joining BNY Mellon, Ms. Franklin held multiple senior management positions, including president of Marret Private Wealth and COO of Marret Asset Management, a credit and hedge fund asset manager in Toronto. During that six-year tenure, she had direct oversight of all aspects of the private wealth business. Prior to joining Marret, Margaret was a partner with KJ Harrison & Partners.

Ms. Franklin began her career in the institutional business and has worked with pension plans, endowments, foundations, and government agencies at State Street Global Advisors, Mercer, and Barclays Global Investors.

She previously served as chair of CFA Institute Board of Governors and is a former president of the CFA Society Toronto Board. Ms. Franklin is a founding member of the CFA Institute Women in Investment Initiative, a past recipient of the Alfred C. Morley Distinguished Service Award in 2014, and a member of its Future of Finance Content Council.

Ms. Franklin earned a Bachelor of Administration in Economics from McMaster University in Ontario. She is a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Society Toronto.

Wendy Goffe
Wendy S. Goffe

Wendy S. Goffe is a partner at Stoel Rives LLP. She has more than 25 years of experience counseling clients on estate planning issues, including advising clients on such matters as probate and trust administration, estate and gift taxation, charitable giving and nonprofit trusts and corporations, family-owned business succession, and issues concerning unmarried couples. Ms. Goffe has extensive experience preparing prenuptial, postnuptial, and cohabitation agreements. She is a regular speaker at local, regional, and national events addressing a number of estate planning topics. Ms. Goffe has been interviewed by and written for many national publications. She has been a contributor to Forbes.com, a shareholder at Graham & Dunn PC, and an attorney at Bogle & Gates. Ms. Goffe earned a BA, cum laude, from the University of Washington and a JD from the University of Washington School of Law.

Amy Hubble, CFA

Amy Hubble, CFA, is the founder and principal investment advisor of Radix Financial, LLC, an independent RIA firm specializing in research-based investment management. Based in the Cayman Islands, she also provides international investment consulting for Helix Advisory Services and Vos Pension. An active public speaker, published researcher, and financial educator, Dr. Hubble frequently collaborates on research aimed at improving behavioral outcomes of financial planning through investment risk profile assessment, strategic asset allocation, and the identification (and avoidance) of adviser biases. She holds the CFP designation. Dr. Hubble earned an MBA from the University of Oklahoma and a PhD in consumer economics and financial planning from the University of Georgia.

Jane McGonigal
Jane McGonigal

Jane McGonigal is the director of game research and development for the Institute for the Future and a world-renowned creator of games designed to solve real problems and improve players’ lives. Players of her games face such challenges as surviving peak oil and establishing local sustainable businesses. Dr. McGonigal has created games for such organizations as the World Bank, the New York Public Library, the American Heart Association, and the International Olympics Committee. She is notable for bringing gaming to the health care space, and her best-known game, SuperBetter, has helped 1 million players tackle such health challenges as depression, anxiety, and traumatic brain injury. Dr. McGonigal is the author of two New York Times bestsellers: Reality Is Broken: Why Games Make Us Better and How They Can Change the World and SuperBetter: A Revolutionary Approach to Getting Stronger, Happier, Braver, and More Resilient. Her TED Talks have more than 10 million views, and she was featured as one of Success magazine’s 25 Successful People Who’ll Help Change Your Life in 2018. Oprah Winfrey called her one of the 10 most inspiring women in the world. Dr. McGonigal earned a PhD in performance studies from the University of California, Berkeley.

Liz Miller
Liz Miller CFA

Liz Miller, CFA, is the founder and president of Summit Place Financial Advisors, LLC, offering personalized financial consulting and coordination to elite families and individuals. She has over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry. Ms. Miller started her career as a mergers and acquisitions analyst and proprietary trading analyst for the First Boston Corporation. She has served as a portfolio manager for Oppenheimer Mutual Funds and spent 15 years managing portfolios for institutions and individuals at Trevor Stewart Burton & Jacobsen. Ms. Miller is the author of Clutter-Free Wealth: A Goal-Oriented Guide to Gaining Control of Your Affluence and a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Trusts and Estates Magazine. She is vice president of the Alumni Board of the Sphinx Society of the University of Pennsylvania and is on the External Advisory Board of New Jersey Institute of Technology. Ms. Miller is a member of the Financial Planning Association, the National Speakers Association, and the Women Presidents’ Organization. She teaches classes every summer at the Chautauqua Institution and holds the CFP designation. Katherine Nixon
Katherine Nixon CFA

Katherine Nixon, CFA, is an executive vice president and chief investment officer for the Wealth Management business at Northern Trust. Her responsibilities include investment policy development, with a focus on portfolio construction and implementation. Ms. Nixon also directs the investment management activities of over 200 Northern Trust portfolio managers across the firm’s 60+ Wealth Management offices. She is on the Investment Policy Committee and the Tactical Asset Allocation Committee and chairs the Wealth Management Investment Advisory Committee. Ms. Nixon was selected as one of Private Asset Management’s 50 Most Influential Women in Private Wealth for 2016. Previously, she worked at U.S. Trust Company for 18 years in several investment-related capacities, including managing director and division manager in the Wealth Management Division, overseeing a group of portfolio managers and client service officers. Ms. Nixon also served on U.S. Trust’s Portfolio Policy Committee and Private Equity Investment Committee. She received the Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) and Certified Private Wealth Advisor (CPWA) designations from the Investment Management Consultants Association. Ms. Nixon received a BA from Wellesley College and an MBA in finance from the NYU Stern School of Business, where she graduated with distinction, Beta Gamma Sigma, and was a Stern Scholar.

Arden O'Connor
Arden O’Connor

Arden O’Connor is CEO of O’Connor Professional Group, which she founded to address the needs of families and individuals struggling with an array of behavioral health issues, including addiction, mental health disorders, eating disorders, and learning and other developmental challenges. With several relatives in recovery, she is passionate about helping families and individuals navigate the highly fragmented treatment system in a way that creates positive outcomes and allows families to heal. Ms. O’Connor remains heavily involved in community activities, as a board member of Winsor School Corporation, Collaboration for Family Flourishing, the Massachusetts Association of Mental Health, Attorneys for Family-Held Enterprises, and C4 Recovery Solutions. Previously, she served as a board member and chair of the Justice Resource Institute and a board member of the Harvard Club of Boston, Victory Programs, and the Harvard Business School Alumni Association of Boston. Ms. O’Connor maintains professional affiliations with the Boston Estate Planning Council, Worthy Circles, and the Family Firm Institute. She is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Business School.

Gino Perrina
Gino Perrina CFA

Gino Perrina, CFA, is the chief investment officer at Laird Norton Wealth Management. As the head of the firm’s Investment Strategy and Research Group, he determines the firm’s investment strategy, directs the investment selection process, and works in tandem with the firm’s client services teams to deliver investment solutions to meet each client’s unique needs. Previously, Dr. Perrina served as managing director at BlackRock and as managing director of research and risk management at BlackRock Alternative Advisors. He has also served as head of fixed-income research at Russell Investments. Dr. Perrina started his career as a fixed-income analyst and portfolio manager at Microsoft and was the director of investment management at IAC/InterActive Corp. He has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in investments and risk management at the Michael G. Foster School of Business at the University of Washington (UW), the UW College of Business in Tacoma, and the Albers School of Business at Seattle University. Dr. Perrina currently serves on the Advisory Board for the Albers School of Business. He has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Seattle University, an MBA from Clemson University, and a PhD in finance from Texas Tech University.

Richard Peterson
Richard L. Peterson

Richard L. Peterson is CEO of MarketPsych, a behavioral economics consultancy. He coaches wealth managers to improve their decision making and client relations. The Associated Press has called Dr. Peterson “Wall Street’s Top Psychiatrist.” He has developed popular financial personality tests, has published widely in academic journals, and is an associate editor of the Journal of Behavioral Finance. Dr. Peterson’s book Inside the Investor’s Brain was called “a seminal text” by Barron’s, is in six languages, and was named one of the top financial books of 2007 by Kiplinger. Additional books include MarketPsych and Trading on Sentiment. He earned arts and electrical engineering bachelor’s degrees (cum laude) and a doctorate (cum laude) in medicine from the University of Texas. Dr. Peterson carried out his post-doctoral research at Stanford University and is board certified in psychiatry.

Yoshie Phillips, CFA
Yoshie Phillips CFA

Yoshie Phillips, CFA, is a senior research analyst in the investment division at Russell Investments. She investigates and evaluates the universe of fixed-income investment manager strategies and guides the firm’s fund-of-funds and consulting clients in manager selection and strategy recommendations. Ms. Phillips is responsible for a broad range of global fixed-income product offerings. She leads and specializes Russell Investments’ manager research efforts in the global leveraged credit market and leads the firm’s ESG (environmental, social, and governance) efforts for the global fixed-income team and the firm’s Annual ESG Manager Survey project. Previously, Ms. Phillips worked for the Investment Trust Company of Commerce Bank, where she was responsible for researching and evaluating a wide range of asset classes. Before serving in that role, she worked in the investment operations business at Russell Investments, where she was involved in daily investment management oversight for the firm’s Japanese-domiciled funds. Ms. Phillips also spent four years managing the corporate finance department for a Japanese import/export company in Seattle and reported directly to the CEO. She earned a BA at the University of Washington.

Carol Schleif
Carol Schleif CFA

Carol Schleif, CFA, is the deputy chief investment officer of asset management at Abbot Downing, where she is responsible for helping create and communicate the firm’s asset management strategy. Previously, she served as regional chief investment officer for the Midwest region for Abbot Downing and was a partner and investment principal at Lowry Hill. Ms. Schleif has served as director of investment research and senior analyst at John G. Kinnard & Company and as a research officer at First Trust Company. She began her career as a market strategist at Piper Jaffray & Hopwood. For several years, Ms. Schleif wrote a monthly column for Twin Cities Business Monthly, and she currently writes a quarterly column for Multi-Unit Franchisee magazine. She has also written for Physician’s Money Digest, Estate Planning, Minnesota Law & Politics, and Arizona Business. Ms. Schleif has frequently lectured on a variety of topics, has been featured on CNBC and Street.com, and has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal and by Bloomberg and Reuters, among others. She is a past board member of CFA Society Minnesota and recently attained the Fundamentals of Sustainability Accounting (FSA) credential from the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board. Ms. Schleif graduated summa cum laude with dual bachelor’s degrees in business and equestrian science from William Woods University.

Michelle Smith
Michelle Smith

Michelle Smith is the founder and CEO of Smith Divorce Strategies and Source Financial Advisors, both of which cater exclusively to high-net-worth divorced individuals. Ms. Smith’s background includes experience at such firms as Merrill Lynch, PaineWebber (now UBS), and Wachovia Securities (now Wells Fargo). She has also been assisting the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) publish a booklet titled Navigating the Divorce Process When You Have a Child With Special Needs. Her proprietary “Special Needs Financial Template,” used by attorneys in cases that involve a special needs child, is published on the AAML website. Ms. Smith is a frequent lecturer at AAML conferences and bar associations nationwide, where she leverages her expertise as a financial planner, wealth advisor, and divorce financial expert.

Bill Sullivan
Bill Sullivan

Bill Sullivan is the president of Family Office Exchange (FOX). He leads FOX in helping members understand and plan for future transitions in the family enterprise, the family business, and the family office. For the past 10 years, Mr. Sullivan has served as the global head of financial services market intelligence at Capgemini. He is a distinguished financial services executive consultant and trusted expert in his field, with over 20 years of experience in many globally diverse roles, including two years in Paris and three years in Hyderabad, India. Mr. Sullivan has nearly two decades of experience leading multicultural teams in the United States, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region and ran his own start-up for three years. He is a member of the advisory board of Ascent Private Capital Management, serves on the Zeta Beta Tau International Supreme Council, is an annual judge for the PWM/The Banker Global Private Banking Awards, and was named multiple times to Irish America Magazine’s Top 100 Business Leaders list. Mr. Sullivan received a BS from Tufts University as a double major in economics and psychology.

Anil Suri
Anil Suri

Anil Suri is a managing director and head of asset allocation and portfolio construction analytics supporting Bank of America Private Bank and Merrill for the Chief Investment Office of Bank of America Corporation. He leads the development of frameworks and solutions for asset allocation, portfolio construction, goal-based wealth management, and retirement investing for the wealth management businesses. Mr. Suri is also the lead portfolio manager for the Dynamic Asset Allocation Strategy. Previously, he managed the Portfolio Construction & Management portfolio and fund of hedge fund portfolios, launched the Dynamic Asset Allocation Exchange Traded Funds portfolio, led investment strategy for alternative investments, and was a senior investment strategist on the Merrill Lynch Research Investment Committee. Mr. Suri has served as senior alternative investment strategist at Citigroup, a high-yield and distressed debt trader at Credit Suisse, and a management consultant at McKinsey. His research has been discussed in Barron’s and the Wall Street Journal and published in several peer-reviewed publications. Mr. Suri serves on the International Advisory Board of EDHEC Risk Institute. He earned a BTech from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, an MSE from Princeton University, and an MBA with honors from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Scott Welch
Scott D. Welch

Scott D. Welch is the chief investment officer of Model Portfolios at WisdomTree Asset Management. He is also a member of the WisdomTree Asset Allocation and Investment Committees. Previously, Mr. Welch was the chief investment officer of Dynasty Financial Partners. In addition, he was a co-founder and the chief investment officer of Fortigent, LLC. Mr. Welch also spent more than 12 years on Wall Street, where he focused on capital markets, corporate finance, and derivatives. He is a frequent speaker on wealth management, portfolio management, and the macroeconomic and investment landscape and is an award-winning author of numerous articles in a variety of industry trade journals. Mr. Welch holds the CIMA designation, as well as the Investment Strategist, Advanced Investment Strategist, and Alternative Investments Certificates from the Investments & Wealth Institute (IWI). He is on the Board of Directors of IWI, the Advisory Board of the ABA Wealth Management and Trust Conference, and the Editorial Advisory Boards of the Journal of Wealth Management and the IWI Investments & Wealth Monitor. He earned a bachelor of science in mathematics from the University of California, Irvine, and an MBA with a concentration in finance from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Brian Wesbury is chief economist at First Trust Advisors L.P. He has been a member of the Academic Advisory Council of the Chicago Fed, is a regular attendee of the Economist Roundtable Luncheon at the Chicago Fed, was chief economist for the Joint Economic Committee of the US Congress, and was named a fellow of the George W. Bush Presidential Center. Mr. Wesbury’s writing appears in various magazines, newspapers, and blogs, and he appears regularly on Fox, Bloomberg, CNBC, and BNN Canada TV. He has been ranked as the top US economic forecaster by the Wall Street Journal and one of the nation’s top 10 forecasters by USA Today. Mr. Wesbury began his career at the Harris Bank and has served as vice president and economist at the Chicago Corporation and senior vice president and chief economist at Griffin, Kubik, Stephens, & Thompson. He is the author of The New Era of Wealth and, most recently, It’s Not As Bad As You Think. Mr. Wesbury received the University of Montana’s Distinguished Alumni Award. He received a BA in economics from the University of Montana and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
