Practitioners’ Insights: Investment in the Era of Green Economic Transition

Overview

Over the past couple of decades, climate change has become a global crisis, a far cry from the earlier thinking that it was a phenomenon that may or may not have an impact. Although acute risks, such as storms, floods, and heat waves, have sudden effects and grab media attention, gradual risks, such as sea level rise and increasing temperature, are no less threatening. Given these risks, policymakers, regulators, civil society, and the media are exerting pressure on corporations to integrate climate change into their investment policy, strategic planning, and operations.

Investors and financiers must acknowledge that climate change can have immediate and significant impacts on businesses and lending and investment portfolios. Ignoring climate change risks is no longer an option. For example, insurance companies need to recognize the physical risks of climate change and price them appropriately in their risk underwriting. In addition, the transition to a green economic system also has opened massive investment opportunities.

This webinar discusses climate-related financial risks and opportunities, evolving climate-related policy and regulatory frameworks, and their impact on financial assets. The presenter will touch on issues such as the investment landscape in green sectors in India, policies and regulations with associated challenges related to green investment, and the broader macro-opportunity.

  • Gain an understanding of the investment landscape in green sectors in India, focusing on the current state and the emerging trends.
  • Learn about policy and regulation changes affecting green businesses, globally and domestically, with examples and case studies examining the impact on companies and investors. Examine ways the industry can manage risks, such as greenwashing.
  • Discuss challenges and opportunities in green finance and investment. Evaluate the steps being taken to mitigate risks in green investments.
