CFA Institute CIPM Candidates Pass Levels I and II Examinations
CFA Institute, the global association of investment professionals, announces that 45% and 43% of candidates passed the Level I and Level II Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement (CIPM®) Program examinations respectively. The sittings were administered in March 2021 and candidates will receive their CIPM designation on successful completion of both exams, and verification of experience and membership requirements.
The only credential of its kind, the CIPM Program leverages the global expertise of CFA Institute to deliver practice-based approaches and skills for effective investment performance and risk evaluation, manager selection, and investment performance reporting that is ethical, transparent and insightful.
“We applaud the new CIPM certificants who have taken the time to demonstrate their mastery of the single most important metric in asset management – performance,” said Peg Jobst, Managing Director, Credentialing at CFA Institute. “As the first class to have studied the brand new 2020 Global Investment Performance Standards and Data Integrity areas of the curriculum, they are well equipped to serve their clients and employers with transparent, accurate and advanced portfolio analytics. This latest class in our growing base of CIPM designation holders advances us one step further in our mission to professionalize investment reporting and to qualify talent.”
The CIPM Program curriculum is based on an advanced body of knowledge that is continually reviewed and updated by investment practitioners to ensure it comprehensively and completely reflects the competencies needed to succeed in today’s financial industry.
Level I of the curriculum focuses on ‘Performance Measurement and Attribution’, emphasizing the conceptual foundations of performance measurement, attribution, appraisal, and presentation, as well as the GIPS standards. Level II of the curriculum is weighted towards ‘Performance Appraisal and Manager Selection’, including application of the appropriate tools and inputs in more complex investment decision-making situations.
More than 2550 investment professionals hold the CIPM designation worldwide, demonstrating their commitment to transparency, accountability, professionalism, and putting clients’ interests first. Successful CIPM candidates include portfolio managers, investment consultants, performance analysts, risk analysts, compliance officers, GIPS® verifiers, and financial advisors, among others.
To earn the CIPM designation, a candidate must enroll in and pass two exams, become a member of CFA Institute, meet professional experience requirements, and maintain mandatory continuing education. CFA® charterholders and candidates who have successfully completed the Level III CFA exam can proceed directly to the second CIPM Program exam (Level II). On average, CIPM Program candidates report spending approximately 150 hours studying for each exam.
