Who is eligible for Charterholder membership?

To be eligible for this membership, you must complete the CFA Program, and 4,000 hours of eligible work experience in a minimum of 36 months. You will also be required to provide three professional references (or two if one reference is a professional member of the society to which you are applying).

    If you’ve passed all three levels of the CFA Program and completed 4,000 hours of relevant work experience over at least 36 months, you’re ready to apply and take the next step in your professional recognition. Start your application.

    If your role involves investment decision-making or supports that process—such as analysis, research, or portfolio management—there’s a strong chance it qualifies. You’ll have the opportunity to clearly outline your experience when you apply. Learn more at Application resources.

    You’ll need to complete all three levels of the CFA Program to be awarded the CFA charter. You may qualify for Professional membership if you meet the work experience requirement. Once you’ve completed the CFA Program, you’re eligible to become a Charterholder member.
