Sheila Bair, Nate Silver Join 1,800 Investment Professionals to Shape the Future of Finance at 67th CFA Institute Annual Conference

1 April, 2014
New York City United States
Global financial professionals gather to explore ways to build a trustworthy, forward-thinking financial industry that better serves society

The 67th CFA Institute Annual Conference, to be held May 4-7 in Seattle, will bring together up to 1,800 of the world’s leading financial professionals to focus on shaping the future of finance. In the six years since the financial crisis began, investor trust in the investment profession has suffered great damage and many social and economic costs linger; the gap between where the financial industry has been and where it needs to be still remains.

The conference will address:

  • How to shape the future of finance– Gather ideas on how the industry can promote stability and minimize systematic risk, including putting investors first; safeguarding the system; retirement security; financial knowledge; regulation and enforcement; and transparency and fairness.
  • How to put investors first– Discuss new ways to align with investor interests despite an environment of fee structures, short-termism and ownership. May is Putting Investors First Month, during which the industry can show their support and share how they put investors first.

Top leaders in finance to share insight, ideas to shape the future of finance

During the conference–one of the world’s largest and longest running gatherings of investment professionals–attendees will hear top economists, respected investors, bestselling investment authors, and governmental and regulatory leaders share insights on today’s most critical industry issues. More than 30 scheduled sessions will examine market trends, uncover new investment opportunities, and deliver practical advice to shape the future of finance for generations to come.

Speakers include:

  • Sheila Bair, Senior Advisor to the Pew Charitable Trusts, Former FDIC Chair
  • Nate Silver, Editor-in-Chief, FiveThirtyEight.com
  • Cliff Asness, Co-Founder, Managing Principal and Chief Investment Officer, AQR Capital Management
  • William Sharpe, STANCO 25 Professor of Finance, Emeritus, Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business
  • Carl Richards, Director of Investor Education at the BAM ALLIANCE
  • Simon Lack, CFA, Founder, SL Advisors, LLC

In addition, CFA Institute will offer Master Classes, an in-depth exploration of specialized topics in a course-style lecture format by academics from the world’s top universities and business schools.
