CFA Institute Welcomes New CIPM® Certificants
CFA Institute, the global association of investment management professionals, announces that 59 percent of candidates who sat for the final Expert level exam in the Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement (CIPM®) program passed the March 2017 exam. Pending verification of experience and membership requirements, these successful candidates will be able to use the CIPM designation to provide the levels of informed investment performance evaluation, manager selection, and client communication demanded by the industry.
“The CIPM curriculum is continuously reviewed and updated by investment practitioners globally to reflect the most relevant industry trends and skills required by investment management firms today,” said Thomas Porter, director, CIPM Program. “CIPM certificants are provided with advanced portfolio evaluation and analytical skills to assure clients their needs are being served to the highest ethical standards.”
The CIPM Program offers practice-based learning, and promotes professional and ethical excellence in portfolio performance and risk management, enabling certificants to evaluate and communicate investment performance in a transparent and insightful way. Successful CIPM candidates include Portfolio Managers, Investment Consultants active in manager selection, Performance Analysts, Financial Advisors, and Client Relationship Managers, among others. There are a total of 1,631 investment professionals who hold the CIPM designation and who have demonstrated their commitment to serving society and their clients’ interests first through professionalism and integrity.
“The knowledge acquired in the CIPM program has allowed me to go deeper in conveying complex investment issues and concepts to clients,” said Richard Mitchell, CFA, CIPM, Senior Consultant at Aon Hewitt, Toronto, Canada. “I found that marrying the skill of portfolio management with the evaluation of managers’ decisions and their processes helps me see the bigger picture. It was a good fit to bring these skills together through the CIPM experience.”
To earn the CIPM designation a candidate must enroll and pass two exams (Principles and Expert levels), become a regular member of the CIPM Association, and meet professional experience requirements. CFA charterholders and candidates who have completed the CFA Level III exam are granted an exemption from taking the Principles level exam and can proceed directly to the Expert level of the CIPM Program.
The CIPM Program applies best practices in investment analysis techniques through a self-directed curriculum and tests proficiency in professional ethics, performance evaluation, and investment reporting. Approximately 70 percent of the CIPM curriculum covers advanced performance evaluation and the remainder centers on ethical and professional standards.
Registration for both levels in the September 2017 examination window remains open through July 31, 2017. The CIPM curriculum is offered online and examinations are administered each year in March and September at test centers worldwide.
