CFA Institute Names Stephen M. Horan Managing Director, Americas Region
CFA Institute, the global association of investment management professionals, has named Stephen M. Horan, PhD, CFA, CIPM, CAIA, managing director of the Americas region at CFA Institute, effective immediately. Over the last six months, Horan has served as interim managing director of the Americas, in addition to his role as managing director of the organization’s Credentialing division.
“The Americas region is home to more than half of our member societies, more than 90,000 members, and some of our strongest institutional partnerships,” said Marg Franklin, CFA, president and CEO of CFA Institute. “Steve brings strategic perspective, a deep understanding of candidate and member needs, and broad knowledge of our business to this role. Under his leadership, we are in an excellent position to grow and advance our mission to lead the investment profession in this critical region.”
Horan previously served as managing director of the Credentialing division, where he led the development of CFA Institute designation and certificate programs, including the CFA® and the CIPM® Programs. Prior to joining CFA Institute, his professional experience included a unique combination of industry and academic roles, serving as an expert witness in securities litigation, a forensic economist in private practice, a principal of a financial advisory firm, a financial analyst, a professor of finance, and a recognized financial industry researcher and author. His published works include the highly regarded book Strategic Value Investing and The New Wealth Management: A Financial Advisor’s Guide to Managing and Investing Client Assets.
“I’m honored to assume leadership of the Americas region and get to work on behalf of CFA charterholders and our many stakeholders throughout the U.S., Canada, Latin America, and the Atlantic Islands,” said Horan. “I look forward to leading the region toward continued growth and fulfilling our role in building the investment profession to the highest standards of ethics, education, and professional excellence.”
As Horan assumes leadership of the Americas region, CFA Institute veteran Peg Jobst joins the leadership team as interim managing director of Credentialing. She will oversee CFA Institute designation and certificate programs, continue to lead Exam Administration and Security, and co-lead the organization’s computer-based testing initiative.
