Investment Challenges and Opportunities across the African Continent
CFA Institute, the global association of investment professionals, has released a first compendium of essays about African Capital Markets. Produced by the CFA Institute Research Foundation in collaboration with the African Securities Exchanges Association (ASEA) and CFA societies in Africa, the brief includes perspectives on the history, current developments, and outlook for ten of the leading markets across the Africa continent.
African markets have experienced rapid transformation. However, they face fundamental challenges within a range of market conditions from rapidly emerging economies, to countries with a long history of financial markets. For prospective investors, the essays offer insights on how changing regulation, evolving financial technology, and expanding investor access are transforming opportunities across the continent.
Markets covered in the brief are: Botswana, East Africa, Egypt, Ghana, Mauritius, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa and Namibia, and Zimbabwe. To access the compendium, please visit http://www.cfainstitute.org/en/research/foundation/2019/African-capital-markets.
Rhodri Preece, CFA, Senior Head, Industry Research at CFA Institute said:
“Every piece in the compendium reflects our desire to partner with strong African entities and local CFA societies to provide authoritative insights and analysis for current or prospective investors in African capital markets. The research aims to set out the economic and investment landscape in more than 10 markets in Africa, providing a tool to educate, stimulate, and engage investment industry stakeholders including practitioners, firms, universities, regulators, exchanges, and capital market participants across the continent.”
Karim Hajji, President, African Securities Exchanges Association (ASEA) added:
“For African bourses to attain a desirable level of competitiveness and live up to their economic and social mandate, they must attract international inflows in a sustainable way. This newly issued compendium of Africa essays from CFA Institute Research Foundation offers a leading resource of information and data for our continent, set to further inform industry participants and investors in our continent’s future.”
