CFA Institute Joins Virtual Launch Celebrating the Opening of the 8th Global Ethics & Trust in Finance Prize for a Sustainable Future

USD 20,000 essay competition invites under-35s to reimagine how financial institutions, together with their stakeholders, can balance the desire for growth, security and stability

Brussels, Belgium 02 Jun 2020

CFA Institute, the global association of investment professionals, announces today its support for the 8th edition of the global Ethics & Trust in Finance Prize, along with co-supporters Euroclear, ACCA, SWIFT and SWIFT Institute, and Pictet Group.

The launch of the USD 20,000 prize for under-35s is being marked by a virtual ceremony bringing together professionals and experts, including recent laureates of the Prize, to provide insights on the role of ethics to help shape a more sustainable and resilient financial system for the future.

Gary Baker, CFA, Managing Director for EMEA and Research, Advocacy and Ethics at CFA Institute, will take part in the launch roundtable which will explore the role of ethics and trust in shaping a more sustainable and resilient financial system for the post-pandemic world. He comments:

“Across society, we still have a great deal both to discover and to resolve in how we move forward towards greater sustainability, and progress will require a variety of contributions. As we think about the role that investment management and the capital markets can play, the global Ethics & Trust in Finance Prize offers a unique opportunity for individuals to deliver their ideas directly to the industry. I’m honoured to be participating in the launch of the 8th edition, and I look forward to the many perspectives that will be contributed by Prize participants around the globe.”

The Prize, organised by the Observatoire de la Finance, provides under-35s the opportunity to submit an essay reassessing the role of financial institutions and how they can provide a meaningful response to the changing needs of the communities in which they operate. The Prize also encourages candidates to reimagine how financial institutions, together with their stakeholders, can balance the desire for growth, security and stability for the post-pandemic world.

The distinguished international Jury of experts in ethics and finance is co-chaired by Josina Kamerling, Head of Regulatory Outreach EMEA at CFA Institute, and Prof. Paul H. Dembinski, co-President of the Jury and Director of the Observatoire de la Finance.

Josina Kamerling comments: “This Prize is an inspiration to all, as young people working in finance step forward to address ethical issues in the finance industry. As co-President of the Prize Jury in recent years, I have shared these essays with policymakers and stakeholders around the world, in order that the ideas presented through the competition may have an opportunity to contribute to how the industry, regulators and governments adapt and develop their economic systems for future generations.”

The closing date for essay submission to the 8th edition is set to 31 of May 2021.
