How to Earn and Maintain the CIPM Designation
The following steps detail how to earn your CIPM designation and maintain your status with ongoing professional learning opportunities:

Enroll in the program by registering for the Level I exam
There are no entrance requirements. CFA® charterholders and candidates who have successfully completed the Level III CFA exam can register directly for Level II.

Complete Level I and Level II exams
Exams are offered during the months of March and September.
Enrollment Criteria for CIPM Program
To become a CIPM candidate, you must enroll in the CIPM Program and register for the Level I exam.* In order to enroll you must meet all of the qualifications listed below. We have provided helpful information below to guide you through the enrollment process and to keep you on track for registration.
*All CFA charterholders and candidates who have successfully completed the Level III CFA exam are exempt from Level I CIPM and may register directly for Level II.
CFA Institute requires that every CIPM Program candidate have a valid international travel passport. Those without a passport will not be able to register or sit for exams.
CIPM exams are only offered in English. Exams require English proficiency for reading comprehension and formulating answers to complex financial scenarios.
All candidates in the CIPM Program must complete a Professional Conduct Statement form to attest that they are compliant with this requirement.
There are some countries with which CFA Institute cannot work. Review the OFAC Policy to check if there are any sanctions on your country. The CIPM Program is not yet offered globally. We are working to expand the certificate into additional markets. At this time, for example, we are not able to test candidates on mainland China. We are working with local regulators to obtain approval to test candidates in the region. Once approval is obtained, we will update this notice.
